Huawei Vision Android Smartphone Preview: Price, Features and Specs – The mobile revolution as it is now did not happen overnight. It went through a lot of phases and undergone a lot of changes, all seemingly for the better. The unofficial catalyst though that made the mobile revolution push forward with blinding aggressiveness as we currently see is said to be the release of the original iPhone a couple of years back.
With its release came the birth of the new generation smartphone. As to be expected, manufacturers jumped the bandwagon and began unleashing smartphone after smartphone onto the market. The consumers became the clear winners here with a lot of smartphone options to choose from.
Not only that, the smartphone has become a lot smarter. It is now capable of things that we can only dream our mobile phones can do say five years ago. In addition to that, the smartphone also became a lot powerful with components under its hood that can do pretty much everything a desktop can do.
With this profitable segment of the market becoming even more profitable, another manufacturer decided to join the smartphone fray in the form of Huawei. The company recently announced the Huawei Vision, its entry to the smartphone competition.
What then can we expect from this new market player? What kind of specs does it have lurking under its hood? Will it be able to stand out and distinguish itself from the competition? What kind of reception will it get as soon as it hits the shelves? Read on as we chance a glance at the Huawei Vision.
Design and construction
No official measurements have been confirmed yet but the Vision has a candy bar form factor that packs slightly curved edges to smooth out its rough parts. Reports claim that it is only 9.9 mm thick (or thin depending on how you look at it) and tips the scales at 121 grams making it a joy to hold.
Its front panel gives off the impression of having an ugly black slab of plastic kind of design appeal but peek at its back panel and you will be treated to a unibody construction reminiscent of HTC handsets that we have come to adore.
The unibody construction of the Vision gives it an elegant look and feel to it and we are hoping that this device will have a solid build quality to it. What set it apart though are the sexy curves that the handset packs. These curves combined with the premium materials used in the construction of the handset give it a sexy and streamlined look.
Under the hood
It may not have the specs of superphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II and the HTC Sensation, the specs of the Huwaei Vision are still impressive. It packs a single-core SnapDragon processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz. The processor sits on a QualComm MSM 8255-1 chipset and is paired with 512 MB of RAM. No news yet if the Vision will have its own dedicated GPU to help out with graphical chores but it will certainly pack 2GB of internal memory for your storage needs.
The onboard storage will surely be not sufficient especially if you have plans of making use of the Vision as your multimedia workhorse but a microSD card slot that can handle up to 32GB is there for instant memory expansion.
The display and other features
The Vision is endowed with a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen though there is no confirmation yet as to what the resolution of the display is. Be that as it may, we expect that the display of the Vision will have integrated sensors such as accelerometer and proximity sensor to extend the functionality of the device.
Looking at the camera department, the Vision only has one shooter and it is a rear-facing snapper with a 5-megapixel resolution that packs autofocus and LED flash. Switch it on to video mode and the Vision is transformed to a digital camcorder capable of recording video clips of 720p HD recording.
The Vision is said to pack Android 2.3 Gingerbread when it hits the shelves overlaid with the company’s proprietary 3D carousel user interface. This also something of a contention here with reports that the Vision is 3D-capable though there is no news about a 3D display.
Connectivity-wise, the Vision packs all the bells and whistles with support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n along with Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support. It packs a 1400 mAh battery but since no real world tests have been done yet, the battery life of the Vision hasn’t been ascertained yet.
The bottom line
No pricing is available for the Huawei Vision yet but the company is expecting it to be substantially less compared to the price tags of the bad boys of the smartphone market. If this turns out to be the case, then the Vision will be received with warmth given its elegant unibody construction and somewhat impressive components under the hood. Well, only time can tell as to what fate waits for the Vision and we surely will watch out for how everything turns out.
