Acer Iconia Tab A510 Android Tablet Price in the Philippines, Features, and Other Info: The Iconia Tab A510 is the newest addition to Acer’s lineup of Android powered tablets. It packs the latest quad core processor and is built around the latest version of Android operating system (version 4 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich). It is Acer’s first tablet computer to use a Tegra 3 chip, and the second one to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich. In a tightly competitive and growing market of Android tablets however, it seems that the A510 doesn’t have what it takes to compete head on with other brands and models. Still it is a tablet worth considering, especially because it has a rather fast and rather outstanding computing power.
Physically, the Acer Iconia Tab A510 measures 6.9 x 10.2 x 0.4 inches and weighs 23.5 ounces. In other words it is thicker and heavier than many of its competitors. Furthermore, the dimensions of the tablet make it feel a bit too sharp when held at landscape mode. Overall, the design is very unoriginal. It is reminiscent of all Iconia tabs out there.
Compared to Asus and Toshiba tablets, the Acer Iconia Tab A510 doesn’t have the sleek metallic edges so it’s not as nice looking as the other tabs. In fact, it is made mostly of plastic and housed in a black and silver case that makes it feel cheap and breakable. The plastic is a bit textured to allow for some easy grip – comprising of a soft, matte finish and bumpy dots, but it nonetheless lacks that premium feel in other tablets, even when compared to those like the Samsung Galaxy tabs that are also made of plastic. However, because of the textured back, it does feel grippy and secured on the hand. Curiously enough, the back of the device features the Olympics logo next to Acer’s own, streamlining the company’s partnership for the London Olympics.
Connectivity-wise, the Acer Iconia Tab A510 has a microUSB jack but has its own adaptor so that it can instantly turn into a standard-sized USB port when needed. In addition, the tab can accommodate USB keyboards and storage but only for those that have FAT32 format. This means that the tab can play videos off of external hard drives, a feature that is likewise found in its Asus and Toshiba competitors.
The Acer Iconia Tab A510 has a built-in microphone found on the top edge, a rotation lock, and some dual speakers at the bottom. The perimeter of the device is in fact littered with ports and keys. On the lower edge, aside from the microUSB port, there is a recessed reset button. On the left side are a power button, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. And on the right are HDMI-out and a covered microSD slot.
The Acer Iconia Tab A510 features a rather standard 10-inch 1280 x 800 pixel TFT LCD panel, something that is seen in many mid range 10-inch tablet computers in the market. The screen has fairly good viewing angles though but is still subject to quality degradation and glare.
On the other hand, the Acer Iconia Tab A510 features a 5 MP rear facing camera, the same one used by the A500 before it, but somehow Acer opted to remove the accompanying LED flash. Photo quality, like in many tablets before it, is decent but not necessarily good because images from the A510 seems to be oversaturated in terms of the red pixels.
The camera of the Acer Iconia Tab A510 is also capable of 1080 p video recording, although when viewed, it doesn’t necessarily translate to full HD. The camera doesn’t have image stabilization so pictures and videos may come out shaky, but it does have Dolby Digital Plus compression technology that makes for really great sound experience from videos.
Performance-wise, the Acer Iconia Tab A510’s 1.3 GHz SoC processor and 1GB of RAM give it massive computing power. This means that the tab can handle web browsing and application usage without the bothersome lags. Multitasking is also very possible.
The Acer Iconia Tab A510 uses a 9800mAh / 36.26W battery that can last to around ten hours of continuous video playback with Wi-Fi on and at maximum brightness. It exceeds many of its competitors in this regard.
