Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Android Smartphone

Let’s admit it: Samsung is just getting more serious and more serious, and… you said it. Lately, we’ve heard about the new cousins of the flagship Galaxy S4 in different names, from the Mini for the budget-conscious users to the S4 Zoom for the extra camera feature. Now, if you are tired of always going on flight, take time to dive with the new S4 Active of Samsung. Practically it’s the same S4, but with a trick: it’s certified to be weather proof. Bring it underwater for an extra dimension of use and convenience, and with all the same smart features, you’d sure love to hear what this new Active has to say.

I’d say that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is not really a more active smartphone in terms to features, but it targets those consumers who have a more active lifestyle everyday—those who enjoy their own swimming pools back at home. That’s just a part of it, but you might ask how it came to happen when you learn that the S4 Active has an incredible addition to the water-proof feature: it has a fully removable battery where you can also see the removable memory and SIM card, and the audio port is not covered. The S4 Active is IP67-certified, is water-resistant for 1 meter for 30minutes, and is dust and splash resistance.

I also think that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is paid in response to the strong contender Sony Xperia Z for being weather-sealed as well, but Samsung does a lot better here. There’s the 5.5-inch full HD display though not Super AMOLED, and at 441ppi, you’d still enjoy a seamless display experience as you’d expect, plus the Gorilla glass for added protection. The body is practically plastic in material, but surprisingly there’s not any disturbing flex on the body. To complement this, the added screws seem to ornament the handset more for a more rugged feel, making it feel safe and durable enough even when you slide it down the stairs (though I wouldn’t do it).

Available in Urban Grey and Dive Blue, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active measures a little thicker and is a little heavier at 139.7×71.3×9.1mm and at 153grams. As expected for being an S4, the S4 Active shares all the same features—especially the Smart features—to make it truly fantastic without losing any experience at all. And before I forget to mention, there’s also the addition of the Aqua mode for the camera, which is essentially a mode that you SHOULD use under water. The 8MP camera is a bit shorter than the flagship 13MP, and unluckily, there’s not a physical button to operate, making you opt for the volume control to do so.

Oh yes, there are the physical buttons as well for general controls and navigation, and this is a bit of fun more if you combined it with the Smart Stay feature which detects your face (your eyes) in scrolling pages up and down. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is using the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2, but the TouchWiz interface is what you will still enjoy and expect. Running in the background, there’s the quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon processor and 2GB of RAM. You can only use around 11GB out of the 16GB of internal ROM, but you top it up using an external card of up to 64GB. Outside these, there’s the fastest 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, and the reasonably acceptable 2600mAh battery that promises 17 hours of talk time.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is a good but late attempt to make this flagship Galaxy series truly enriching and worth buying.
