Bose QuietComfort 2 Noise-cancelling Headphones

Bose QuietComfort 2 Noise-cancelling Headphone Price and Features: With the advancements in technology when it comes to noise-cancelling headphones, the market became flooded with headphones that cost too much dinero while claiming they cancel noise and in the end fail miserably in cancelling it very well. There are also cans that cancel noise very well but at the expense of being uncomfortable to wear.
Enter the Bose QuietComfort 2. These set of cans is able to deliver a more improved sound, a better design and noise-cancelling circuitry that is built into the headphones themselves. With these three characteristics, the QuietComfort 2 was able to exceed the expectations set by the original QuietComfort.
Are these cans that good? Are they worth your hard-earned money? Read on to help you make up your mind.
Design and construction
The QuietComfort 2 is designed with an over-the-ear style and has a band that goes over the head. The earpads of the QuietComfort 2 along with its headband pad are covered with a very soft leather-type material that makes it very comfortable to wear even for extended periods of time.
The cans with its built-in noise-cancelling circuitry and battery tip the scale at 7 ounces which is fairly impressive for a full-sized headphone. Though the QuietComfort 2 is kinda hefty, its earcups swivel making them fold flat and fit a carrying case that makes it easier to tote around.

The noise-cancelling part
The QuietComfort 2 relies on active noise-isolation technology to physically block external noise and keep it out. It has a built-in noise-cancelling circuitry that makes use of several microphones on the headphones to listen for external noise. Once the external noise has been identified, the noise-cancelling circuitry will produce the opposite audio signal of the external noise, thereby effectively blocking it.
With the QuietComfort 2’s large, padded earcups completely engulfing your ears and blocking external noise to a certain extent and the noise-cancelling circuitry integrated in the headphones working overtime, external noise is effectively blocked out leaving you with just music in your ears.
The comfort factor
One of the biggest gripes when using noise-cancelling headphones is that they are extremely uncomfortable to wear. Add to the fact that most of these cans use the standard design of housing the noise-cancelling circuitry and battery in a pod attached to the headphones cable.
With the QuietComfort 2, the comfort part is effectively taken care of. The noise-cancelling circuitry AND battery is integrated into the headphones so you have no pod to contend with. In addition to that, the QuietComfort 2 is very lightweight and has very soft cushions in its earcups that seal very well. No tightness in and around the head can be felt as the cans are able to retain the level of comfort over long stretches of usage.
The sound and the fury
In most cases, noise-cancelling headphones that work very well do so at the expense of the quality of sound they produce. That is a non-issue when it comes to the QuietComfort 2.
These pair of cans are still able to deliver the sound quality that Bose came to be known for even if much of the design was focused on integrating the noise-cancelling circuitry into the headphones.
Upon using the QuietComfort 2, the first noticeable things in terms of sound is the bass. The bass on the QuietComfort 2 is rich and full, the type you expect from high-end speaker systems. It is upfront, punchy and has that “kick” compared to other brands.
The midrange is very clear and excellent-sounding. Vocals are “perfectly” presented and are handled pretty well. The highs on the other hand are also good and even screeching sounds are made to sound “tame” without sounding shrilly. A person can listen at high volume levels and wouldn’t be bothered when a cymbal blast cuts through. That’s how good the sound quality is.
Battery life
The QuietComfort 2 is draws its power from a single AAA battery that goes into a compartment in the headphones. That single battery pack can provide enough juice for the QuietComfort 2 to give you up to 45 hours of music.
The verdict
The Bose QuietComfort 2 certainly exceeds expectations in terms of quiet and comfort. They effectively block external noise out and at the same time extremely comfortable to wear even for extended periods.
If money is no object, the Bose QuietComfort 2 with its price tag of 299 big ones in the US of A will surely give you the most bangs for your buck.
