Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 Tablet Computer

Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 Tablet Computer Price and Features: With the increase in need for mobility, the need for devices that lead to higher portability have followed suit. Smartphones, netbooks and tablet computers, even ultraportable notebooks, have flooded the market like we have never seen before.
In the case of the tablets, the rage was started by Apple when it released the iPad. Other manufacturers followed suit by releasing their respective products. However, if you take a look at the tablets currently available in the market, the most dominant platform would be iOS for the iPad and Android for everything else.
We don’t get to hear much about tablets running Windows for their operating system until now. In reality, there are a couple of Windows-based tablets but they are not as hyped as their iOS and Android brethren. This could be due to the fact that these tablets have heftier price tags compared to say, an Apple iPad 2 or an HTC Flyer. But still, they are out there.
In this article, we get to talk about the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550, one of those lesser-known Windows-based slates. Fujitsu, as we all know it is up there right next Toshiba when it comes to product build quality and reliability and we are hoping that the Stylistic Q550 also gets a dose of those two attributes. Read on then to find out more details about the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550.
Design and construction
The Stylistic Q550 measures 275 x 192 x 16.2 mm and tips the scales at 860 grams with its 4-cell battery. Upon getting a touchy-feely of the tablet, its build quality immediately becomes apparent and the subtle texture ringing its body can be felt pronto. It also has rounded edges so the tablet doesn’t dig into your palms making it comfortable to hold even for extended periods of time.
A smattering of the usual ports can be found on the sides of the device and these include a SIM card slot, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and a docking connector. It also comes with an SD card reader, which can also be used for memory expansion aside from reading data off an SD or SDHC card.

Under the hood
On paper, components that power up the operation of the Stylistic Q550 are impressive but not really mind-blowing. It relies on an Intel Atom Oak Trail Z760 processor running at 1.5GHz. The processor works in conjunction with 2GB of DDR2 memory and has an integrated Intel GMA 600 graphics to help handling all matters concerned with graphics.
Storage comes in the form of a 62GB Solid State Drive. Yes sir, you heard right. 62GB of pure SSD delight. This is good news because the use of an SSD rather than your usual HDD facilitates a snappier performance. Or so we hope in the case of Stylistic Q550.
The display
The Stylistic Q550 sports a 10.1-inch IPS (in-plane switching) WXGA touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10. The display of the tablet has anti-glare features making it more usable outdoors because it is able to provide higher visibility even under direct sunlight. In addition to that, the Stylistic Q550 has exceptionally good viewing angles making it ideal for multi-user sessions.
The display also has an integrated accelerometer for automatic screen rotation and has support for multi-touch input. Aside from multi-touch, the Stylistic Q550 also has support for active pen input and its retail package comes with a Dual Digitizer for pen input.
The shooters
This is where things get a bit hairy. One look at the shooters the Stylistic Q550 comes with makes you realize that this tablet is not intended for the average consumer, rather, it appeals more to business users in mind. Dismal would be the adjective I would be using to describe its shooters. The primary shooter is a rear-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, which is just too vintage while the front-facing one is a VGA camera which can be used for video calls.
The bottom line
For a price of 849 big ones in the US of A, the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 rather comes in with a heftier-than-usual price tag compared to its Android-running brethren. However, for its price, you get an exceptionally reliable tablet with the Fujitsu bloodline and that counts for a lot.
However, at this price point, prospective buyers might opt to blow their cash on an ultraportable which definitely packs a lot more power under the hood compared to the Stylistic Q550.
