It has gained a good reputation for its remarkable robustness and dependability, even in the course of sustained heavy use. Top Gear ran a special program in 2007 in which the show hosts raced a customized 2005 model Hilux to the 1996 magnetic north pole from Northern Canada against Richard Hammond utilizing a dog sled. In 2011, the Toyota Hilux received a facelift (redesigned front end) and was given a redesigned interior. In addition, it is equipped with a new turbocharged diesel engine that can do up to 106 kW (142 hp) and 343 N·m (253 lb·ft) of torque. The new engine is also more fuel efficient than the previous model.
