HP Photosmart 6510 All-in-One Printer

HP Photosmart 6510 All-in-One Printer Price in the Philippines, Features, and Specs: The Photosmart 6510 from HP succeeds the Photosmart 5510, both of which are multi function smart printers capable printing and scanning. The Photosmart 6510 produces high quality printouts and even has some cool web features like cloud printing and Apple’s AirPrint, and supports HP’s own web-based applications. In terms of usability, the printer contains a duplexer for double sided printing. It has a photo tray so one can switch printing from text-based documents to glossy pictures without having to unload and reload papers. However, compared to its 5510 predecessor, the HP Photosmart 6510 has a more premium price.

Physically, the HP Photosmart 6510 is small yet wide at 436 mm. It looks very squat, so one basically needs a wide desk or shelf space in order to accommodate its size. It is made of both glossy and matte black plastic and overall comes out looking quite stylish and simple, with that kind of look that doesn’t generate unwanted attention. The HP Photosmart 6510 features a unique 3.5-inch panel that is touch based, and is articulated so the user can tilt it either forwards or backwards for a better viewing angle. The display is very nice, even crisp and well detailed, and it is also very responsive. In addition, the touchscreen panel makes the utility much easier and user friendly. Setting up a document to print is very easy too using the panel’s GUI.

In terms of physical interfaces, the HP Photosmart 6510 comes with a card reader that could support memory sticks as well as SD cards. This is hidden behind a small plastic flap on the left of the screen. Unfortunately, there is no PictBridge compatible USB port on the device. As mentioned, the HP Photosmart 6510 comes with a dual tray. It is a cassette type paper feeder with a standard paper compartment at the bottom, and a separate photo paper tray on top. A flip out tray is partly formed from the top paper feeder that receives all printouts. Unfortunately, this part of the printer seems to be too flimsy, and can be considered a weak spot (prone to damage) of the whole system. The printer doesn’t come with an automatic feeder.

In terms of setting up, the HP Photosmart 6510 is pretty easy to install. It comes with an install wizard that opens in the touchscreen display once the printer is booted up for the first time. The wizard seamlessly guides the user in each step of the process, even including how to change or insert the ink cartridge of the device, and how to add photo paper to the feeding tray. Set up is thus very quick and easy.

The user has the option of connecting the HP Photosmart 6510 through a USB or via Wi-Fi. Using Wi-Fi though enables one to take full advantage of the printer’s unique abilities. This makes it easy to directly print from any iOS device such as an iPhone or iPad 3, without having to bother with the physical connector, and without having to install the printer software into the computer or device. Aside form USB and Wi-Fi, one may opt to set up using HP’s ePrint and Google’s Printing services, which allow printing from email (as in the case of the ePrint wherein the user can email the document directly to the printer) and from Google’s online services (as in the latter) like Google Docs and Gmail. In addition, there is also HP’s Web Apps, which enables the printer to access web content through the touch panel, and print them directly.

Unfortunately, printing speed of the HP Photosmart 6510 seems to be sluggish compared to the Photosmart 5510. Documents with graphics and color business presentation come out slower, but photo printing is a tad faster in the 6510 than in the 5510 although this is largely due to the duplex tray. Print quality is excellent though, with good black on white sharpness, and an accurate color reproduction. Ink usage is also somewhat efficient and cost effective. The printer uses four separate cartridges.

Overall, the HP Photosmart 6510 is not a bad multifunction printer. It does however lack some support for PictBridge USB port and automatic feeder, which can be found in competing brands at more or less the same price.
