Epson WorkForce WF-7520 All-in-One Printer

The WorkForce WF-7520 is a printer from Epson that was designed to cater to businesses and professional printouts – that is, micro, small, and home offices. It can print to up to 13 x 19 inches (supertabloid size) or larger, and scans documents of up to 11 x 17 inches. Essentially it is a wide format printer that is made as a total solution; it even features the world’s fastest print speeds among its category. Some of the highlights of the WorkForce WF-7520 are its total paper capacity of up to 500 sheets, its amenability to print on plain paper or specialty paper at any time, and an automatic workflow for two-sided printing, copying, and scanning thanks to its built-in duplexer.

The Epson WorkForce WF-7520 includes two different trays, each with a paper capacity of 250 sheets that the user can fill with two different printing media. In addition, the machine gives a quick print layout and scans originals in large formats in a ready to go manner so that the user doesn’t need to use a software to stitch the images together. As for the quality of prints, the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 produces smudge, fade, and water resistant printouts so the user can quickly hold the papers as soon as they come out of the machine without damaging the printed images or texts.

Setting up the machine is pretty easy and standard as it offers both Ethernet and Wi-Fi network connectivity. At the same time, the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 features a so-called EPSON Connect technology that allows the user to print directly from his or her smartphone, tablet or other mobile devices. The printer is also capable of remote printing from any device that can e-mail. In addition, it is compatible with Apple AirPrint, as well as Google Cloud Print.

Another feature of the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 is that it is designed to be eco-friendly. It uses up to 70% less power than laser printers, and the user can save up to 50% on paper with automatic, two-sided printing. It is also ENERGY STAR qualified and at the same time RoHS compliant. The printer was also designed to be recycled so the user has to have no problem disposing an old unit.

Performance-wise, the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 has been clocked at a very effective speed of 3.9 pages per minute, a close match to that of the MFC-J6910DW and MFC-J6710DW, which both came in at 4.1 ppm. As for photo speeds, the printers are also at par with the WorkForce coming in at 2 minutes and 34 seconds and both Brother printers speed of 2 minutes and 23 seconds.

Output quality wise, the Epson WorkForce WF-7520’s outputs for texts and graphics are all good for an inkjet printer. Text is good enough for any business application, with many of the fonts highly readable even at sizes as small as 5px. On the other hand, graphics print showed some minor banding in some full-page output but overall the quality of the graphics is still definitely suitable for almost any business use. Photos from the printer are great. Black and white photos in particular did not show any unwanted tints at any shade of gray. Although it might not be what photographers and professionals in this field look for really, the quality given by the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 is good for most people, and good enough to frame.

Running costs for the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 amounts to around 3.2 cents for a standard letter-sized mono page, and 11.3 cents for the colored version. Epson however claims that it is less costly than professional color laser prints that allow the user to save up to 40% on color printing. At the same time, its built-in duplexer and Automatic Document Feeder saves up to 50% of papers with automatic two-sided printing, scanning, copying, and even faxing as already mentioned. The Extra High Capacity cartridges also allows the user to change ink cartridges much less often since they can print to up to two reams of paper at a time.

Overall, the Epson WorkForce WF-7520 is an engineering feat – a flexible, and high performing all in one printer that forgoes a lot of compromises but at the same time bring to its users quality services. The only con though is that it has a relatively high cost per page. The WorkForce WF-7520 is in direct competition with both the Brother MFC-J6910DW and the Brother MFC-J6710DW printers.
