Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR Compact Digital Camera

Having a DSLR is enough nowadays to make you happy, but having a compact DSLR is more promising. From the word itself, making DSLRs more compact is tantamount to saying that having a professional camera doesn’t have to be too weighty. As for Fujifilm, a well-trusted company in terms of photography, they believe that DSLRs can be as compact without losing the extensive controls a usual non-compact DSLR can have, from the focus ring down to the dials. When the company released its new model HS30EXR from the FinePix series, compact DSLRs are just about to go a step more advanced than ever.

Priced lower at around $500, the Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR is relatively cheaper for a DSLR that has a bulkier sensor and zoom components. For this price, you get a Fujifilm model that comes with a higher resolution compared to predecessors, a more powerful manual zoom, and a glass that delivers the same results as those of 24-720mm lens. Bulkier, yes, but it’s worth the buy.

One complementary reason also as to why Fujifilm introduced such a build is the integration of more buttons and manual controls compared to usual. There’re obviously controls everywhere from sensitivity controls to white balance. A multi-function dial is also helpful for almost all-purpose navigation, and is situated just above the surface. There’s a 3-inch screen also that is even friendlier because of the tilting feature. The well tuned display showcases picture-perfect display, though the display brightness is a bit dimmer than expected. For overhead shots, the tilting component is really massive.

A proximity sensor on the Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR stands on the surface to help users also go into the eyepiece than dwelling on the LCD, which is more preferable than pressing a button for the switch. This is also helpful for those who want to avoid unwanted contacts with the LCD and with some buttons on the interface. The dioptre that locates itself alongside with the viewfinder is also a big plus for creating the most comfortable focal sensitivity.

The 16-MP sensor of the Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR is capable of a very resolute 4608 x 3456p image, and light sensitivity can be further adjusted from 100 to 3200. One downside of this, however, is that in higher ISOs, grains are more noticeable compared to usual models that actually offer more ISO sensitivity. Nevertheless, the sensor, together with the discrete processor is also capable of high-quality burst shooting. A 1/4k shutter speed is also outstanding enough for you to take pictures in just the right frame expected.

Picture quality is above average. When tested upon images under direct sunlight, the contrast level is deep but rich making photos more naturalistic than ever. However, some pastel-colored variables in the picture can be a bit too saturated or vibrant, especially if the focus is directed towards the plane. Nevertheless, under different light settings and scene depth, the Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR delivered professional-looking photos that can also come in RAW format.

On the video side of the camera, the Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR is capable of shooting 30 frames per second at a very high 1920x1080p resolution, which can be optionally changed to a lower 1280x720p. Though there’s no automatic motorized zooming ability, the manual zooming can also be fun. The sound quality is crisp and clear also with an almost invisible mic on the interface. If there’ll be only a port where an optional microphone shotgun can be plugged in, this camera can deliver more robust video experience.

Overall, the Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR is a well-equipped one for professionals and enthusiasts alike. Picture quality is of no doubt high quality without too much trouble trying to navigate with the load of controls. And if you are the type of photographer who is fond of outdoor fun shooting, this might be a very good digital camera for you to crave for.
