HP OfficeJet 150 Mobile All-In-One Printer

If you are the type of entrepreneur who does slideshows on the plane, replies to emails while on train, or does proposals on the last minute before the show-off, then the new HP OfficeJet 150 Mobile All-In-One printer is the right one for you. You’d sure cough its price of $300-$400 off, but having a printer on-the-run should be a bit stronger reason than the cost. Let’s try to find out what made this printer so special for such a huge price.

Being a mobile printer does not only mean you have a battery to rely on for your printing needs, but it also entails that you can have something that you can easily bring along than going for print shops on the street. Technically, the HP OfficeJet 150 has a metallic feel to its material, making its body size of 13.98×6.95×3.52 inches look sturdy and reliable enough with just the right amount of curves to make it truly modern. Weighing also at around 6.4lbs, you’d sure love to take this along on your backpacks, but maybe not really because it’s still weighty to pull you down and tired.

While portability is indeed an advantage, some users would still prefer going over the wires than relying on the printer’s Bluetooth technology as the only wireless capability it gets. I was actually expecting at least an Ethernet port for on-the-line business printing, but the HP OfficeJet 150 Mobile All-In-One is short of this. Instead, the MFP (multi-function printer) only has a USB 2.0 port (at the back. I wish I can see one at the front for easy access), plus another version of USB port to connect directly to a PC. Lacking a Wi-Fi feature also means that this printer really is not Internet-ready and hence a bit off-dated, thus don’t expect that the output can be directed to your e-mails, or vice versa.

However, having a Bluetooth connection has its own list of advantages as well. One of which is the ability for the printer to ‘talk’ to smartphones and other capable technologies for easy printing wirelessly from a distance. Herein users will be able to direct the scanned output to the device, wherein the receiver—if it is capable—will be the one to send it on the cloud like e-mails. Aside from this, users can also connect portable drives and storage cards like SDs and MMCs for direct printing aside from the USB flash drives, However, if you have a camera with PictBridge feature, don’t ask this printer to print the photos for you.

And talking about photos, yes the HP OfficeJet 150 Mobile All-In-One can do the photo-printing job at up to 4×6 paper sizes without any borders, but this should take a real amount of time, as this MFP is not really designed for photo printing. Thankfully, the OfficeJet 150 comes with a 50-sheet input paper tray that serves as a lid also, a 2.36-inch resistive touch-capable color display, a feed-type scanner/copier that you have to manually feed papers sheet by sheet, and an output slot (not really a tray so you have to wait for the printer to ‘spit’ the paper out and catch it). Lastly, the printer has an ISO-printing speed of 5ppm for mono, and 3.5ppm for colored.

While the HP OfficeJet 150 Mobile All-In-One does not really guarantee speed and performance, the output is nevertheless challenging and promising for a printer this compact. Texts and graphics are clear enough, gradients looked clear and smooth especially for monos, and photos are at least acceptable enough but not for professional purposes. One problem also aside from the huge price the MFP gets is also the cost of ink. Gratefully the OfficeJet 150 of HP comes in only two cartridges (one for black and one for colored), but each print can cost as low as 5.2cents but up to 25cents especially for photo printing.

I am indeed impressed to see one of the world’s first battery-operated multi-functional portable printer that does its jobs clear and nice without the hassle. Lacking Wi-Fi capability and some good ports can really make this printer costly, not to mention yet the price per print, but overall, the HP OfficeJet 150 Mobile All-In-One is one great innovation every entrepreneur would glad to have.
